About the Company Sagan represents a high-growth US-based rheumatology specialty and infusion-focused medical practice managing complex biological therapies and in-house dispensing operations. The team operates at the intersection of clinical care, insurance coordination, and specialty pharmacy logistics, with a strong focus on improving time-to-therapy and maximizing internal fill rates. Position Overview: This role owns the full lifecycle of specialty biologic prescriptions from prescription creation through to patient-on-therapy. The Head of Biologics & Specialty Pharmacy Operations serves as the central operator across providers, payers, pharmacies, and internal teams, ensuring that every valid prescription is either successfully converted into treatment or clearly accounted for. This is a high-ownership operational role focused on pipeline integrity, dispensing optimization, and system design. Key Responsibilities: Track every prescription in the pipeline from Rx written to first dose ensuring nothing slips without escalation or documentation. Diagnose and reduce external specialty pharmacy leakage by redirecting appropriate volume through the practice's internal channels. Build and maintain the medication routing decision framework (Drug × Payer × Benefit Type) to maximize in-house dispensing and margin. Reducing rework rates and cutting time to treatment initiation. Ensure every prescription has a defined status, owner, and next action. Own prior authorization performance, escalation pathways, and resolution outcomes. Monitor stalled or denied cases and drive resolution through stakeholders Identify systemic payer or documentation issues and implement long-term fixes. Ensure seamless handoffs between prescription, authorization, dispensing, and administration. Build SOPs for prescription tracking, routing decisions and escalation workflows. Use data to identify bottlenecks and drive operational improvements. Qualifications: Experience in US healthcare operations (one or more of: prior authorization, insurance coordination, specialty pharmacy, or dispensing operations) Strong ability to manage multi-step operational workflows across stakeholders. Proven ownership mindset with strong follow-through. Comfort working across EMRs, pharmacy systems, and operational trackers. Ability to operate independently in ambiguous environments. Nice-to-Haves: Experience with biologics, infusion therapies, or rheumatology. Understanding of US payer dynamics and specialty pharmacy constraints. Experience building operational dashboards or workflow systems. Success Metrics: No prescriptions lost or untracked in the pipeline. Reduced time from prescription to treatment initiation. Improved internal dispensing / reduced external leakage. Clear, reliable operational reporting across all pipeline stages.
